Actually, in my experience, the hardest thing about being a sole bread winner is trying to convince your lady that you (and therefore she) are not failures because you can never afford a foreign holiday. It weighs heavy on them not keeping up with the hive.
Went to one of these meetup/social events tonight. Turned up, started doing the rounds. Got chatting to a few guys and shooting the shit.
As I'm working the room I introduce myself to a girl sat in the corner. It becomes immediately apparent that this girl has some form of learning difficulties/autism.
She says that no-one wants to talk to her and I felt a bit sorry for her. So I thought I'll spend a little time talking to her, excuse myself, and carry on working the room.
After a few minutes of conversation, she then asks if I want to play some pool. Sure, why not. We play 2 games of pool and then I excuse myself to go to the loo.
I come back and start introducing myself to some of the new people who've arrived. Spot this girl out my peripheral who makes an immediate beeline for me.
I try to be polite and include her in the group conversation, but she's struggling. So I'm there trying to hold two conversations at once. Eventually I think right, If I just chat with these lads, she might gravitate towards someone else in the group. Nope.
Gets to 11pm and she decides to go home. On the way out she slips me a note saying how much she enjoyed spending time with me, how she'd like a drink or cook me dinner, and her number.
I feel bad not replying but at the same time I can't really reply. And if I go to another one she'll be there.
