@Ill_Will7 however, the owner of the crawler may use the results of a crawl for all sorts of activities.

@Ill_Will7 No No. The crawler is just an automated browser collecting knowledge. It is perfectly legal and moral

@Ill_Will7 More like copying keyword, and summaries. copying data from sites (including this one) would mean that meta would have to have sufficient storage as the entire internet- that's inefficient.
@sean_karaya I just barely learned how to do
this
Don't know a whole lot of technical stuff about computers. Since I got sober I have had a much greater hold on my addictive behaviors, prior to that, My career with computers has been similar to everything else I have done in life, corrupted. It was only used for 2 thing... A) Play video games. B) watch porn.
@sean_karaya that got down the rabbit hole fast!
So this "crawling" can only be a nefarious activity?
@sean_karaya boy.... I am even more confused.
So it is archiving stuff on the site? Or copying the data from this site?

Now why would they be doing that?
The main reason behind this sort of things is to have an in-house index of webpages and their content. That sort of things can easily be petabytes large, albeit it will not be as large just on a single site like this.
The index is what powers a search engine. Facebook might have an, as the saying goes, Ace up it's sleeve to beat google in Long Run, may be by creating a search engine with an integrated AI that is better than google's gemini.
Alternatively, this is also a database they can use for moderating their content and/or running CIA sponsored PsyOps. They know the main resonant themes, they know the weaknesses, and they can infer how to inject slightly different ideas amongst people who share such links.
For example, if Mr X shares a link to Where are all the good men, meta will figure out that he is uh - misogynist. Then may be the next step of the PsyOp would be to find where the weakness is. If Mr X shared a link from this site, where it is shown that an American woman [Woman A] is or undesirable characteristics, then the PsyOP would be to introduce a "recommended" news in his feed where they show a let's say, Indian woman [Woman B] is of desirable characteristics.
Great, now you have weakened Mr X because you found a way to attach him to someone else. Then if you can add some traits [in the trade jargon called Angelic traits] to the woman B, then you can make him accept and my extension influence his friends and neighbors to sympathize with woman B.
Once that step is done, you can then perform various things (usually money laundering) through woman B, and Mr X and his circle will (at least some of them) not only B sympathetic, but will support politicians who construct policies that protect such money laundering activities.
LEGAL DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT CLAIMING FACEBOOK DOES THIS, I AM NOT IMPLYING ANYTHING ABOUT FACEBOOK I am only explaining what I am educated about.
Read More@sean_karaya I'm pretty far right, I consider him an opponent in many things as well
Since you are the mod
Only at WAATGM, WATGMA, and a few smaller tribes. Not a mod site-wide.
I am gonna pretend your question is genuine.
It was, and I'm sure it was when @Ill_Will7 asked it.
We're both blue-collar skilled tradesmen, and not programmers.
[the explanation]
Thanks!
Now why would they be doing that?
