Bro, we've been over this. If that were my catheter it'd be as big around as a soda can.
Of course I'm not going to doxx myself like that. @MentORPHEUS may have found it amusing to post about having to beat off the female hospital staff with a big stick but I'm not interested in putting that metaphor to the test in more literal terms.
Especially when I already have a couple hungry pussies at home waiting for me to bust this joint and give 'em their goddamn wet protein supplements already.
I don't smoke weed but I definitely needed some painkillers after laughing at this. Have some fcks, you asshole.
It's a useful reminder for all us who ride to pay attention, and be visible. I was riding only last weekend on a 2 day trip with a old buddy, and I always wear my hi vis vest. My buddy said it 'looks gay' but there is a reason why road workers wear them - they catch your attention from 300m away.
Paying attention is 90% of the battle, IME, though visibility can make a very dramatic difference. I've told folks before, if you're careful, observant of your surroundings and driving defensively (all of which you should be doing anyway). 99.99% of the time you'll see the other driver's stupid coming and be able to respond accordingly to remove yourself from harm's way.
Unfortunately there remains that .01% of the time that wearing protection, riding responsibly and all the rest act only as mitigating factors. As @Typo-MAGAshiv says, you can be doing everything right and still get creamed because the other asshole wasn't paying attention for the wrong moment.
If you're going to enjoy riding, that's a reality you're simply must learn to accept.
And, as I've responded to Typo in previous discussions of the topic, it is a perfectly legitimate response to look at that risk and conclude "fuck that shit."
Read MoreApparently it was an old GMC Sonoma hit me, so nowhere near the size of the monstrous full-size pickups the EPA insists folks drive today. Learning that did a fair degree of recontextualizing for me; the much smaller mass of that model of vehicle doubtless accounts for a fair bit of my good fortune WRT not being dead.
From what I understand based on shaky second-hand knowledge of the event from folks who haven't spent the last week cooped up in a hospital bed, the driver openly admitted to driving distracted and has been active on local Facebook groups expressing a great deal of regret for what happened.
Much as part of me would like to hate her, I've been guilty of glancing at my phone for a couple seconds while driving before. It's not something of which I've ever made a habit and is something against which I expect I'll be even more vigilant in future, likely to the point of irritating my friends if they do it in my presence. But I digress. If she's any sort of decent person she's already beating herself up over this way more than I ever could.
Plus her auto insurance is on the hook for all my medical expenses and whatever the payout on my bike will be, which helps soothe the vengeful spirit.
Saying that it wouldn't hurt you to increase your visibility. I can bet at least half of the modded motos are done for this reason. Dudes are not speaking about it because noone really listens to safety concerns and maybe it sounds gay
I have sweated not once seeing a motorcycle appearing out of nowhere and they were not racing, they were just small aka invisible.
Yeah, I'll have to look into that if I decide I want to ride again. My jacket does have reflective strips on it, but they could stand to be a lot more in-your-face.
As for being called gay, I'm already a regular poster here and a mod for a niche online community. My being a sword fighter was a foregone conclusion long before I considered bedazzling my riding gear.
Besides, with fags like you all I'm in pretty good company.

I think only @Kevin32 can do that
@Impressive-Cricket-8 I see two things that need to be corrected here...
@woodsmoke Oh man, I cannot even imagine being in your situation. And after reading your description of what happened, all I can say is I'm glad you're still here, and expecting a full recovery. I'm nobody's mother, but follow your doc's recommendations to a tee, eat well, rest and take it easy.

Please rest plenty and take care of yourself. Glad to hear that you'll make a full recovery.

It seems the serious accident rate in the US is much worse than in EU.

@woodsmoke I'm relieved to hear you are ok ... I've always enjoyed your posts man.
Sending you very warm regards from London, UK. I hope you make a full recovery, and quickly.
Thanks for thinking of us and posting.
I read carefully about motorcycle deaths / accidents. The real danger point is intersections, and in particular, unprotected left turns at intersections on big roads. Those situations seem to account for the majority of serious motorcycle accidents.
For this reason, I now limit my motorcycle riding to the country side. I avoid all of those roads where you might find unprotected left turns (or right in the UK). I don't ride at night, I don't drink booze, and I don't ride tired or fast.
I think you man, and wish you well.
