I am not taking sides here, but a lot of guys are chill, content, and not chasing money..enjoying life as it comes. Again, not taking sides, but lot of people (and women) find that attitude appealing/attractive.
Lot of people (epsecially outside of USA) dont actually care about grinding all the time too much.

Take away the aspect of having a mother for your kids, and the main reason for having a stable wife was not so much the sex, but rather a woman to look up to you as a God.
Women are not capable of making their own way in life. They need somebody else to guide them. This was typically their man, before the state stepped in and said "I'll be your God, worship me and you can fuck Alphas all the way to your 80s".
So you had the stable wife for... well, the stability, a fall back for hard emotional times in exchange for your leadership, and the mistress for the sex.
The mistress typically being more on the hysteric side, keeping things fun, unpredictable and exciting.
I don't think we can appreciate the "old way of things" unless we bring the marital triad (husband, wife, mistress) into focus.

We must have grown up in different parallel realities
The differences between some prior time and today are (i) current macroeconomic situation and (ii) the Internet
One of the core issues I endlessly harped on when I still wrote and participated in TRP spaces is that the writer is showing you a reflection of their world view and experiences
Thus a post can be tremendously popular and get all the like buttons but fundamentally be the expression of someone for whom life has "always sucked", never got over their divorce, never had a relationship that wasn't controlling or ended in disaster, and has found their own special way to get attention from....whoever enjoys going here to read this type of shit from the same 8 people
The reason I found great respect for people like Archwinger is they admit their scathing critiques and cynical screeds were written in the bathroom alone while they were upset with their wife/gf/life. That edge fundamentally came from a place of unhappiness
