As I went around the car checking tires and cleaning the windshield while the pump ran, I observed the ashtray in the center console completely overflowing, with butts and ashes spilling out and down the sides of console and seats alike. Asked her if she wanted me to dump the ashtray for her, which we would totally do at Full Serve. @Orangudan This station had one full serve and two self serve islands. We "pump jockeys" would collect from customers at the self serve islands and bring their change back, then reset the pump with a special key tool. Also verbalize to them the notice on the oft-ignore signs reading No Smoking- Stop Your Motor.
I took the job expecting to work in the garage doing things like brake jobs and water pumps, but that fucker put me on pump duty only. I only stuck with it for the 45 or so days because the schedule was flexible with the last months of my school hours. I asked for a day off because my Great Grandma died, and he gruffly refused. Started looking for another job right away, got one closer to the work I wanted to do, and quit with little notice.
Funny thing was, years later I was doing mechanic work at a tire store miles away and he came in to pick up a set of tires. Spotted me and started yelling out in the shop, "Don't hire that guy, he'll QUIT on you! He'll QUIT! That guy will QUIT!" It was supposed to be funny, but the longer he carried on, the more it sounded like a serious grudge.

@gearhead Speaking as one of the other men, yes it is a red flag. EVEN if they truely are "just friends" in even the most innocent way, they have either fucked or will fuck, especially if alcohol is involved. Unless she is ugly.
