[matrix] protocol can be used on PRIVATE server for possibly safe communication / instant messaging tribe. Example of working room on public server.
https://matrix.to/#/#thetrpredpublicsquare:matrix.org
Link takes to the chat room > needs to register account (temp email is enough) > From list of apps Element (web) is easy to go use ---- order of steps might vary
This room is not intended for long term use, it has been set up on public server, against temp account, and room itself is public (anyone can join) and it can be removed by admins of the server.
It is for testing only.
This specific implementation has many good functions that are probably replicable to any matrix protocol that can be accessed by Element app.
1. Each part of main conversation [chat bubble] can be TOPIC / THREAD on it's own - similarly to forum
2. Room can be End 2 End encrypted [setting up encryption is not reversible]
3. Room can be locked to invited participants only - passworded
4. Who can read history?
5. Easy to assign user's: Roles & Permissions
6. Attaching files
7. Editing messages [traceable]
8. In app keyword searching
9. Open source: can be set up by anyone at no upfront cost for software
10. Ignored users list
Not implemented: easily wiping all messages, time delete,
